Unveiling a Unusual Steam Demo: Guiding a Turdy Character with the Goal to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have discovered numerous engaging indie games. However, one stands out for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer features a protagonist that is actually a piece of poop attempting to navigate to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
The gameplay is straightforward: just use a one button to leap. Across 150 levels, battle boss fights and access a store to acquire outfits for your dung hero.
Execute your jumps carefully, as a wrong move means restarting the level. Bounce off bubbles to hurl the poop higher, cross disappearing ledges, and touch triggers to reveal new areas. Earn coins to purchase tougher stages in which gameplay gets crazy.
In terms of design, the game shows off eye-catching stages and an amazing music score. The retro art featuring morphing basic polygons could recall players of beloved games like Earthbound.
Even though tough to think of other games where you are a piece of feces, video games have long included scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, players make throwables from protagonist droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, this theme shows up heavily in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Despite its silly concept, Unko Technica has already received significant recognition, like winning at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is ready currently on Steam, with the full game scheduled to debut on computers this November.
